AUCKLAND HEALTH RETURNS

FIGURES FOR DECEMBER. In all 199 cases of infectious diseases were notified to the Auckland Provincial Health Department during December, as compared with 190 in November, 179 in Octobcr and 229 in September. Auckland central district showed a fairly large increase, 81 cases being reported as against 73 in November, and 85 in October. Tuberculosis was the most prevalent disease in all the provincial districts, the number of cases reported being 48, against GO in November. Forty-six cases of pneumonia were reported, compared with 57 in the previous month, while the number of cases of diphtheria showed a reduction of two. There were 25 cases of scarlet fever, the same number as in November.'-*' • " The following return > for December concerning the central health district is supplied by Dr. Tlios. J. Dr. Herbert Cliesson, medical officer in charge of the North Auckland and Thames-Tauranga health districts, reported as follows: — North Auckland.—Scarlet fever. 7; diphtheria, 5; enteric fever, 1; tuberculosis, 0; pneumonia, 10; erysipelas, 1; puerperal fever, 2; total,*"32. In the South Auckland health district Dr. John Boyd reported 57 cases, made up as under:—Scarlet fever, 5; diphtheria, 10; enteric fever, 4; tuberculosis, 22; c.s. meningitis, 1; pneumonia, 9; erysipelas, 1; puerperal fever, 4; eclampsia, 1.
