AUCKLAND GIRL'S ACTION.
STRUGGLE WITH RIVER CURRENT.

WAIRAKEI, Thursday.
The plucky action of an Auckland girl, Miss A. Glover, of Stanmore Road, Grey Lynn, prevented a drowning accident at Wairakei this afternoon. Sac
plunged into the swiftly-flowing current of the Waikato River to aid a bather who was iiv difficulties..
. A 15-yeav-old Mokai girl, Miss Evelyn Low, was bathing at the mouth of the Geyser Valley hot creek, which connects with the Waikato River at the Wairakei landing, when she was caught by the current, and carried away. Without hesitation Miss Glover plunged to the rescue. With powerful strokes she reached Miss Low, and succeeded in supporting her till the latter's father reached her. The three swimmers, however, were separated by the current. Mr. Low was carried to the near side of the river, and Miss Glover to the far side, • where she landed. Miss Low, who succeeded in keeping afloat on her back, was carried fo'r over half a mile and was finally washed ashore on the far side of the river. A motor car, driven by Mr. Dorrie, of Wellington, was proceeding with a party to Aratiatia Rapids to assist in the rescue when it turned completely over. The windows were shattered, but. the six occupants escaped unhurt. The two girls were finally rescued by a party in an outboard motor boat owned by Mr. D. Hunt.
