MEMORIAL SERVICE.
LATE DR. FITCHETT. FORMER SOLICITOR-GENERAL "A GREAT AND GOOD MAN." The funeral of the late Dr. F. Fitchett, former Solicitor-General and Public Trustee, took place this morning at Waikuniete Cemetery. The remains were cremated. A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell, the service being conducted by the Rev. Canon Fancourt, assisted by Archdeacon Macniuria The mourners included Hμ. Ktchett, Mr. F. Fitchett, of Wellington, Sir Walter Stringer, the Public Trustee (Mr. A. S. Faire) and several members ol the Auckland Law Society. The Rev. Canoii Fancourt said that they liad met to pay their last respects to a very great and very good-man. He was brought up in a Christian # atmosphere and by hia intellectual attainments rose to a very high position, lhej thought of the deceased as a great scholar, who almost up to the last moment was able'to use his intellectual gifts and enjoy them. Then they thought of Mm as a great man, who occupied one of the highest positions in New Zealand, and in the course of his labours placed a strain on his health and strength. He gave all lie could for his country and for the welfare of the people of his country. He was a great man of God and a wonderful disciple of Jesus Christ. Humble and courteous, ifor all Ms gifts, thoee who enjoyed Ms friendship knew what a faithful and true friend 3ie. was. He carried to eternity the wonderful gifts of Ms to use "in still higher spheres. After the impressive service the cortege left for Waikumete, where the last liter! wore performed by the Ecv. Canou Fancourt. The coffin.--was laden with tbetmfcSfui-ilofai 4saiMems.
