RIFLE SHOOTING.
WHAKATANE RIFLE CLUB. .
The first shoot for Mr. R. Melville's trophy took place' this week over 200 and 300 yards and resulted as follows: —Edward Law, 41 at 200 yards, 41 at 300 yards, handicap 4—total 86 ; G. T. Keen, 34, 37 (12)—83; T. Timbs, 3G, 31 (14)—81; E. W. Newton, 38, 41 (scr)—79; J. R. Bell, 30, 24 (20)—74. The competition will be continued next Wednesday and the following Wednesday, but only one day's shoot out of the throe is to count in order that all members of the club shall have an opportunity to compere. Handicaps for the competition have been allotted as follow:—Newton, Bcr; A. Moore, P. Anderson, 11. Anderson, 2 • E. Law, 4:, Mayo, 8; Hepburn, Luxton, R. Melville, 10; Keen, Luke, 32; Howat, D. McDonald. A. Melville, Timbs, Cutler, 14; Miller, Kendall, E. V. Law, Park, 15; Bloor, Boon, McCrncken, IC>; Smedley, Bell. Dickson. 20. The ranges for next Wednesday's shoot are 200 and 500 yards, and for the following Wednesday 500 and 600 yards—ten shots at each range.
