Highly successful demonstration flights have been given by the biggest seaplane so far constructed,' namely, the Yaletta monoplane, made by Short Brothers, of Rochester. It is considered to mark a distinct advance on the Calcutta bijjlane type, also made by the Messrs. Short. ( Tlie Valetta lias a wing span of 107 feet. Three Bristol Jupiter engines of 490 horse-power give a maximum speed of about 140 miles an hour. Comfortable passenger accommodation is provided for 17 persons, and the machine is* easily convertible for use on land. With a ten-ton load, the seaplane yesterday -ade a side wind takeoff in 18 seconds.
