LOCAL BODIES.
OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T Clements, presiding. Sulphur Fumes.—Mr. P. Dalziell wrote asking the council to take out an injunction against the Challenge Phosphate Works for allowing poisonous fumes to escape. The letter was referred to the legal and finance committee for consideration. Dog Registrar.—Mr. J. E. Cochrane was appointed clog registrar, in lieu of Mr. Hare, resigned. Tender.—The tender of Mr. Williams of £20 for cutting and grubbing gorse and blackberry on quarry reserve was accepted. Hoardings—Messrs. Chandler and Co. were granted permission to erect hoardings at Street corner, and on Mrs. Rasmussen's property. ' Septic Tank System.—Mr. P. W. Ashcroft, health inspector, submitted a report on conditions existing in the Tamaki Estate area, and contended that a nuisance or a condition, dangerous to health, and offensive, was within the bounds of possibility with any sewerage system. The contributing factors were more often than not the abuse of the conditions usually observed, and not the failure of the system The failure of the septic tanks could be traceable to avoidable influence He recommended continuance of the present system of septic tanks to include all household waste water. j
