TROTTING AT EPSOM.

PREPARING FOR WAIKATQ. NO FAST WORK THIS MORNING. TRACKS IN GOOD ORDER. Although a little rain fell laet night and in the early hours of this morning tho tracks at Epsom were in good order. Trainers again showed no inclination to send their norees along fast, and the work done was anything but interesting, seeing that the Waikato meeting is drawing close. J. Shaw worked Warplane a couple of milee without the hopples. The Man-o J - War gelding is very well and strode along freely. Worthy Chief (Julian) was sent about a mile and a half. He had to be bustled along by his driver, but did not show any great speed. Belle Axworthy was allotted the lightest of pacing. This mare is in the Mark Memorial at the Waikato meeting. Maid of the Mountains and Anseline were associated over a mile and a half, which Maid of i3xe Mountains covered in 3.50, Aneeline, who broke up twice, being several lengths away. Etta Cole was out doing slow work, being sprinted an occasional furlong. L. McMahon gave his maiden trotter Grand Downs useful work without looking for time. Speed King, with a light boy in the saddle, galloped a couple of rounds on the cinder track. Glandore was not hoppled up, and his work was steady pacing over a couple of rounds. Dan Direct (Newdick) and Haroto (Brain) went just over a mile and a half. Dan Direct wae unhoppled, and twice when asked to show speed went to a break. Haroto was not after time and moved along comfortably. Windshield (Smith) was allowed to canter along for a mile or so. Nelson Tasker was hoppled up and paced in good style. Direct Action (Gilchrist) worked on the cinders, but his task was not a strenuous one. The Derby candidate Great Fame worked about a mile at three-quarter speed. He paced very smoothly and from now on should begin to show improvement. Several others were out pottering about, and next week should see training activities become more interesting. Author Franz. Author Franz, who figured among the entries for the Stewards' Handicap at the Waikato meeting, was not nominated far that event.
