(Received 11 a.m.) SOFIA, September 18. Captain F. J. Matthews, the English airman who is endeavouring to fly from England to Australia in record time, arrived here. He intended to make Sofia his first stop but landed at Belgrade instead, after a flight in which he averaged 115 miles an hour.
Tli© airman was disappointed at losing a day at Belgrade owing to'bad weather and resumed his flight to Coristantin-. ople.
-A message from Bagdad stated that Captain Matthews passed over the city (1000 miles from Constantinople and .1300 from Sofia) at dawn without stopPing- .. '
Later information from Constantinople, however, was in contradiction and stated that Matthews had arrived there at,5.15 p.m. and would leave for Aleppo to-morrow. '' -
