As a result of the campaign agamst tho hoarding of silver coins, a priest named CoozdelT was sentenced to death for having the equivalent of £17 in his possession. Five nuns are awaiting trial on a similar charge.

Four men described as "most mischievous hoarders of silver coin," were shot on August 17 by order of the Ogpu (Russian Secret Police), and several others wer -• imprisoned in a concentration camp for various terms.,lt was explained by the official Tass Agency that the buying and hoarding of silver currency was done mostly by counter-revolution-aries who wished to undermine the credit system of the Soviet and its monetary circulation.
