BOWING.

AUCKLAND CLUB.

At the annual meeting of the Auckland Rowing Club, to-be held next Monday night; the report to be presented deals at considerable length with tlie last seaspn'a activities. While the club retained the oarsmen of the previous season, when second honours were secured, judging by last season's success the club slumped considerably. Other causes contributed to the setback. The economic situation was regarded as the principal cause. The membership was small and it behoves members to engage upon an active campaign to secure new members to ensure a progressive policy in the future. The resignation of Mr. R. K. Stacey as captain was regrettable, as during the five years under his captaincy the club ro3e practically from obscurity to the most successful in the city last season. It was very satisfying to know the club still retained his interest and support, and trusted to have his co-operation for many years. Despite the small deficit of £15, the financial position could be regarded as satisfactory. The eight boats in the plant were ill good condition, but in view of the necessity of new boats the proposal to increase the annual subscription deserved the support of all members. ' The committee extended to the North Shore Club its hearty congratulation on its record success in inter-cliiß events. Despite the many difficulties, the Dr. Stuart Reid Cup was successfully decided on the Whau River course and should prove the forerunner of other regattas for the trophy. Successful negotiations were entered into with the Auckland Harbour Boafrd for a 14 years' lease of a site' at Hobson Point for a new boathouse. The City Council had now taken exception to the site, as when erected the clubhouse would be an Inconvenience to traffic. The lease had been surrendered and up to the present' nothing further had been done. The club regretted the death of Mr. John Marshall, an old and esteemed supporter, and conveyed to deceased's relatives sincere sympathy. Two notices of motion will come before the meeting. The first, to be moved hy Mr. R. Leabourn, that the annual subscription shall be £3 13/6, reducible to £8 3/ if paid before December —; the second, to be moVed by Mr. R. K. Stacey, that rulo 22 be waived for season 1930-81 and read as follows: "The club's financial year shall terminate on April 30, 1931, and the annual general meeting be held no later than May 31, 1931."
