Racing Club will open the spring, campaign in the South Island to-morrow. Good fields have been secured for most .of the events, and the presence of a number of three-, year-olds will make the racing specially interesting. The following is the programme': — Hurdles. Pangolin's Grand National form commends him strongly, but Troilus will be troublesome, as he is very well. After j Ten may be the best of the novices. i Longbeach Handicap. I

On Top has brilliant speed, and Sapient has been galloping well lately. Sleipner and Painkiller are smart three-year-olds, the former being preferred. On Top and Sleipner may be best. < . . Selma Trot. .. C'oloracla" and Desert- Key are a useful pair on the limit, but Real Girl has a big pull in the handicap. She and Llewellyn may be the favourites. Ashburton Handicap. Starshooter will stay better than his stable mate Rascal, and should be hard to beat. The Black Mint-Royal. Game bracket should run well, but Starshooter may be equal to defeating both of the Northern visitors. Trial Plate. i This race will be run in divisions if. there are more than IS starters. There, are some sm,art three-year-olds in .the field. Appeal, Royal Love and Tray Bond being three who can go fast, while of the older lot Homecoming is useful. Appeal and Tray Bond should run well. Fairfield Hack.

Desert Song will have the advantage of recent racing, and should riln a good mile. Gustavo is a useful three-year-old, while Compris and Eapina showed good form at Kiccarton last month. Desert Song may lind Gustavo hardest to beat. Farewell Handicap. Arrowniir has never been better than at present, but has paid for his win at .Riccarton. The Haider meets him 011 Jifteen pounds better terms, but though brilliant, he .stops quickly. Count Cavour seems out of his place among sprinters, though he is galloping well. Flair was second in this race last year, and she may be Arrowmir's most dangerous opponent. Rakaia Trot. Arcthusa makes a strong appeal, as she has a big advantage in the handicap, .while Play Wave niay 'be best of the others. Jockeys' Engagements. "
