(Received 11 a.m.)
MELBOURNE, this day.
In the semi-final of the Australian amateur golf championship the main interest centred in the match ■between'' Morpeth and Hattersley, the 22-year-old Sydney player. ;The latter trailed the ex-New Zealander all day, and tlie first time'he got in front was when he ran down a 23ft putt for a birdie two at the final hole, to win the match. . In the morning Morpeth putted brilliantly, and mainly owing to that had great figures, going out in 34, to be three up at the end of the round. Hattersley got even at the 27th, when he holed a long putt. At the 32nd/a sensational smite by ■ Hattersley sent the ball 300 yards from the tee, and landed on the edge of the bunker. He chipped out beautifully, and holed a 23ft putt. The following four holes were-desperately fought for and halved.
In the two extra holes Morpeth recovered brilliantly, but Hattersley's long putt decided the match. Hattersley is the biggest hitter in the game in Australia to-day.
