UNIMPROVED VALUES.
I must compliment Mr. G. Henry on Ms ingenuousness in admitting his error in stating that landowners rendered 'no service to the State, but regret that L cannot do so on his logical powers when he says, by way of comparison, .that British landowners "renounced their obligations of national service while retaining the privilege of private ownership." That form of renouncement is, of course, equivalent to the landowners, claiming and obtaining a'refund of their purchase money, vflvich ridiculous state of things has not happened in New Zealand. Mr. Henry invites me to state "what proportion of rental value landowners are paying to the State by comparison with the amount, that is being appropriated (by them) under our system." I am afraid that I am not equal to such a stupendous task, and therefore it is with great diffidence that I invite him .to inform us what is the total sum of all purchase money paid to the State for land in New Zealand plus compound interest rates .ind' taxes to date. SINE NOMINE.
