COAL SITUATION.
PROTECTING N.Z. INTERESTS. TARIFF AGREEMENT INVOLVED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A brief "statement on the coal situation was made in the-House to-day by the Hon. E. A. Eansom, Acting-Prime Minister. , "It is recognised that the new conditions created in Australia necessitate action for the protection of the New Zealand coal producing industry," said Mr. Eansom. "That question, however, is involved in the reciprocal tariff agreement now current between the Domicim and the Commonwealth, , no departure from which can be made without six months' notice being given. The question will shortly be considered by Cabinet, with a view deciding whether such notice should be given."
