"The policy of the Government cerning the number of men employed in the Railway's service and the. Public Works Department has not been altered, and there is no present intention to make reductions of staff in them," said the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Acting Prime Minister, in reply to a question by Mr. H, E. Holland, Leader of the Labour party. '.. . ~- •-.•■:■- ' ,v .'< "It must be recognised, however," the Minister added, "that it is impossible for the Government to give an undertaking that no reductions will take place under any condition that may arise, that being entirely dependent on available funds, and the economic value of the work to be carried out."
