CORONER MAKES, SUGGESTION.

As the result of a further inquiry into tho death of Miss Violet Monica Salmond, late headmistress of the Craighead Diocesan School, Timaru, while under an operation in a hospital in Christcliurch, tho coroner, Mr. H. A. Young, to-day issued the following recommendation to surgeons:—
"In view of this fatality, and with a view to eliminating the possibility of ft similar error, J, would, on evidence-before me, suggest to operating surgeons that when the .circumstances are such that there, is any possibility of a drug in lethal quantity being ,, injected they themselves fill or supervifa the "Ailing of-the syringe or syringes to be by .them. 5 *' 1, ; •■ :■■■.- . ■■ ■< . ." . ~ The verdict returned by the coroner at the "original inquiry was as -follows: "That death was caused by alkaloidal poisoning, due to cocaine, which was injected 1 by mistake," instead, <>f neo' cocaine,, round the ioirsila of Miss Sa> mand before an 'operation for the removal of the tonsils. No blaras is attachable to the ;ope!rating surgeons."
