America, returned at dawn to-day. •/ The airmen, landed on a suitable beach' near Shiraya lighthouse, 40 miles north of Shamusliiro, in the same prefecture from which they had started. Bromley said they had returned owing to fog and bad weather,; which made a continuation of the flight extremely hazardous. ' ' , . Following the long silence of the airmen after asking for assistance, wireless operators in ships listened intently for signals, and coastguard cutters at 'Frisco were kept in readiness awaiting word to rush to the aid of the airmen if necessary. In the coastguard radio stations a 24-hour watcli was kept. Government officials were ordered by Washington to render all possible assistance. She was not worried p,s she knew her husband could fly. 1 ' Bromley's, mother said she was not very worried. She had wanted to go with him but he would not take her.
