NOTES FROM ADDINGTON

DERRY POINTER PROMISING.

ROSE MARIE IN WORK.

NATIVE PRINCE FOR THE CUP.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

R. W. Franks has his promising pacer Derry Pointer in steady work. She started five times last season, "winning one race and being placed on two other occasions. Derry Pointer is a useful pacer who should show gome improvement during, this season. Rosa Marie,' who has not raced 'for some time, is back in W. J. Tomkinson's stable. She is a half-sister by Happy Voyage to Hinkler, who is now racing in Melbourne. Rose. Marie, up to, the present, has been seen to most advantage over short courses, and as a four-year-old she did a good, deal of racing. She has had a good spell and looks as though she lias built up a good deal. Rose Marie is a quick beginner and- she may show more'stamina this season. Willie Derby, if he settles down to race solidly, will sobn be a winner. He has plehty of speed, but does not always go steadily with the colour's up. G. McKendry is ; working the big Denver Huon pacer, Howdali, in saddle. Like most of ; -his sire's progeny, he is a good stayer, but somewhat awkward in his gait. On, a-few occasions Howda,h has: (been bad at the barrier, but he id improving andli© should win a :twb-mile race in average company. , 'Admiral Bingen has had an easy time since the August meeting, but no doubt will be sent along in his work in the near future in; view of the November meeting. The fafct trotter looks in capital health, and if he improves, m stamina, as he should do with .age, he will soon be in the best company over two-mile journeys. !

Merry Peter is.new being trained. l>y D. Bennett at Aldington. He looks in good order and .is trotting- well in ;Ms ■work. ' . , ' _

Native Prince has not done much work since the August meeting, where he r&ced in his best form. He will be prepared for the Cup by D. Bennett, who has; had 'charge of the Native .King pacer for eome time past. Native Pi ince is thought by many to possess a good chance in the big November; handicap. George Key is a pacer who showed a lot of improvement last season, and as he is quite a young horse he is expected to do a'good deal better. Hehas raced best over short courses, but it would be fio surprise to. find.,him being prominent in two-mile events, as he races as though he can stay. He is by Key de Oro from a Logan Pointer mare, and lie won three races -last season.
