TRANSPORT BOARD BUSES.
EFTECT OF TARIFF CHANGES.
NO INCREASE IN FARES.
No increases are to be made in the fares of the Auckland Transport Board's bus services at present. The board decided to-day to ' ascertain first its ability to carry the increased eosi of operation over the whole of the undertaking.
Thp increased tariff charges will mean an added burden of £641 to the board, after allowing for the discontinuance of five buses on the Richmond Road route and two on the Mount Eden route.
flash fares could only be conveniently increased by putting up the price from 2d to 3d a section, with Id extra for .every additional section travelled, the secretary reported, but this would bring about anomalies, and, in the circumstances, could not be recommended.
Discounts allowed on the present annual sales of bus concession tickets were £715, and the secretary recommended that, if the board wished, in some way, to meet the increased operation costs, the concession tickets be withdrawn from sale, but the cost of workers' weekly tickets sold for ca=h on buses should net be changed. T>i p. board adopted a recommendation not to make any increase in the bus fares at present.
