He considered the proposed increases were quite unwarranted. On ffce last occasion when, petrol went up, and fees were increased, he was told * prominent accountant that the Bus Company had taken just double the Trinnnr. of ibe increase in cost. Mr. Gmmven considered the bus - service should not b© considered alone; tie ferries and buses were the one concern, and in considering the matter the fare should he looked at as a through fare irrm Anifriand to Takapuna. The oost of transport to Takapuna was getting bo "high that people were being driven away house-property was falling. Mr. Gumrixen was proceeding when fie fha.TnnnTi said, "you are amply maktbg a raniWrnp sort of statement are yon prepared to give evidence ?" Mr. Gnnmiven: I can only repeat Tthaai I am saying. To Mr. AMerton: He admitted the bus service was efficient, but there was nothing whatever to warrant an increase in faxes. Mr. AMerton: You know nothing vtatever about the figures. Mr. Grnmven: Nothing except what I waked out for myself. All I know is yon have no ease. (Laughter.) Mrs. Rknnfield complained that the ■fans service was most inadequate as far as the western district was concerned, and under the circumstances she failed iq sea why there should be any rise in fares. Tile inadequate service and high fares were driving people from the western district of the lake. Mr. P. J. A. Ellisdon said the DevonP®t Borough Council was sympathetic towards the company's application. , Tha authority decided to sanction the increases. Mr. Williamson: I think we should hare an undertaking that in the event ef these taxes on petrol, etc., being "Waned, the matter of fares will be reviewed. ilr.
