UNSUITABLE FOR GOLF.
LAKE WAIATARUA PARK
REPORT TO CITY- COUNCIL.
~' Lake Waiatarua Park is not a suit-, able site for a municipal golf course.,according a report sent to the Auckland City Council by Mr. C. H. Redhead, o-olf architect, of Rotorua, who recently, inspected the park at the councils request. A large portion of the site is peaty, states Mr. Redhead, and would require extensive drainage. Even then the site would take two years or more to consolidate, and when fit for further treatment would present a flat, featureless expanse, unsuitable for the formation of really good links.
An- already drained area of 42 acres, lying south "of the lake, could be used for the formation of a nine-hole course, but Mr. Redhead believes that this would not' nearly satisfy the requirements of the public. Such a course could accommodate only 40 players at one time, and to exceed this number would be not only inconvenient but dangerous. For these reasons the construction of the smaller course would not justify the expense involved.
