TURNERS AND GROWERS'

PROGRESS.

Methods used in the distribution of the fruit and produce of the Islands of the Pacific are illustrated and described in an informative booklet issued by Messrs. Turners and Growers, Ltd.

When the firm opened its business in Auckland in 1895 the city had a population of 30,000. At that time the province was recovering from the most serious depression in its history, and the venture was an instance of the foresight and courage of the founder, Edward Turner. The original business, which was in Queen Street, near His Majesty's Theatre,, was taken over by the sons in 1912, and later a public company was formed. The present directorate consists of three members of the Turner family and three representatives of the growers and suppliers.

The extent of the firm's operations may be gauged from the fact that in one year it has paid £75.000 in freights to the shipping companies ar I the New Zealand railw, ys. Its activities include trade with Australia. America, Canada, England, rs well as the -...aids of the Pacific. Turners and Growers, Ltd., is the largest 'concern of the kind in Australia or New Zealand. The premises have two acres of floor space and have 532 ft of street frontage.

Artistic views of Auckland city and province, and a number of scenic attractions of New Zealand, the fruit plantations in the South Sea Islands, and the interiors of the Auckland premises are a feature of the publication, which is the work of New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd.
