STILL ENJOYING LIFE.

SIXTY YEARS IN PRACTICE.

LAWYER AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

CONGRATULATIONS VOICED

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

NEW PLYMOUTH, this day

Sixty years ago this month Mr. Robert Clinton Hughes commenced legal practice in New Plymouth. He is practising still, and yesterday was congratulated by a conference of Taranaki provincial practitioners. Mr. Hughes was still mentally and physically fit, said the president, Mr. C. H. Weston, in the course of his congratulatory remarks, and, in fact, many younger members of the profession would be proud to be as fit. During his long association with the # law he had always preserved the highest traditions of the profession. Hβ seemed to be quite a record-breaker, and his brother lawyers hoped he would break _ a few more before his time came to quit.

In reply, Mr. Hughes acknowledged the compliments paid him, and said he had nothing but the happiest recollections of his connection with the profession in Taranaki. He told the conference he was still getting a lot of enjoyment out of life, and intended to o-et as much more as he could. He assured them that he had no intention of dying just yet. (Applause.)
