LONDON SHEEPSKIN SALE.
PRICES DOWN.
(Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 5,
At the sheepskin sale 6578 bales were offered and about 70 per cent sold. There was a slow demand. Compared with sales held on July 3 all prices declined. Australian Merinos were down a good 5 per cent, inferior IVz to 10, New Zealand combing crossbreds a good IVz to 10, inferior 10, all clothing sorts VM to 10.
Messrs. JJalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated 4th instant:—66B2 bales of ekeepskins offered and 3187 bales sold. Good attendance from Home trade and Continent, except France and America. Competition poor and bulk of withdrawals-are short-woolled and lambs. As compared with closing rates of last eeries: New Zealand fine crossbred, 5 per cent lower; medium and coarse crossbred superior, 10 per cent lower; coarse and medium inferior crossbred, 10 per cent to 15 per cent lower; Merino combing, 5 per cent lower; Merino clothing, 10 per cent lower when sold.
