AUCKLAND AMATEUR TITLE.

15-YEAR-OLD PLATER WINS. There were two new .aspirants for championship honours iasc nrght In the match played at Messrs. Billiards, Limited, for the Billiards, Limited Shield, aud the Auckland provincial amateur title. They were M. Herewini and T. Tierney,. the latter of whom ik only 15 years of age, and quite likely the youngest player. , who has ever taken part In such title games. The play was even in the early stages, both players finding the match conditions a little difficult. Tierney reached the hundred mark first, aided by a break of 21, and had slightly the better of the game up to the two hundred mark. Herewini, however, assumed the lead soon after, making breaks of 20 and 41. Both players were scoring consistently at- this stage, Herewini making a break of 36 to one of 24 by his youthful opponent. The latter made the scores SIS-all by making a nice all-round break of 36.. Tierney led past the four hundred mark, but Herewini in securing a S2 break made the scores even again at 4.11. The game was keenly contested to tho final points, Tierney eventually winning by 38 points. The final scores were: T. Tierney, 500; breaks of 21, 24, 2s, 20. M.
