AGAIN IN ISLAND FRUIT

SERVICE.

STATEMENT BY MINISTER.

(By Telegraph.—-Parliamentary Reporter. t

WELLINGTON, this; day.

The motor ship Maui.■Poniare. will resume "her running in the island iruit service as announced by. Sir Apirana Ngata, Minister of Native Affaire, in the House. of Representatives to-day, when the Gook Islands estimates were being discussed. , . "It is no use crying over spilt,. milk as'far.as.that vessel.is concerned," said the Minister. "She was found to be not so-* well constructed as she might have been and we have to pay to'have her reconditioned." . - The Minister added that all four main New Zealand ports wanted the vessel to visit them, and in. order that the wish be carried out a few thousand pounds per year had to be-lost.; That must be thoroughly understood, arid he did not think ft was an unsound; policy since, if private enterprise, had to be subsidised for a similar service, far more would be paid out than was represented by the annual loss on the Maui Pomare. (Hear,

hear.) . . ■ . . ' ■ Sir' Apirana expressed /the hope that when the vessel resumed her service.in October she would a better run.
