(Received 10 a.m.)

LONDON, August 25,

The Australian cricketers to-day continued their match against Gloucestershire at Bristol.

■Wherj stumps were drawn on Saturday the county eleven had been dismissed for 72 runs after a late start

owing to ram

Ten thousand spectators were present and saw Ponsford and Jackson make a very cautious start for Australia, as the wic-ket enabled the bowlers to turn the ball. Jackson batted for an hour for eight runs before he was bowled. Gloucester's total was passed without further loss.

Bradman was more restrained than usual. Ponsford carried the total past the half century, but Kippax, McCabe and Richardson all failed against the good bowling of Parker, Goddard and Sinfield. At one stage four wickets fell for the addition of two runs.

Gloucester hatted again in the presence of over 17,000 spectators, behind whom the gates had been closed. Sinfield left at 21, but Dipper and Hammond defied the bowling. The latter was responsible for the county quickly wiping off its deficit. Hammond played his best innings against- Australia this season and reached'so in 59 minutes, including ten fours. He then lifted Grimmett for a terrific six.

At stumps Gloucester was 62 rtm.3 ahead with seven wickets intact.

ENGLAND'S DOLDRUMS. OPINION OF HOBBS. LONDON, August 25. The "Daily Herald'' publishes an interview with Jack Hobbs in which the veteran cricketer says he does not see any chance of England recapturing the ashes in the next series of Test matches. '"We are faced with a tremendous task," says Hobbs. "England wants new blood and young blood, but I cannot see where it is coining from. There is a dearth of bowlers of all kinds in England. Australia has quite a number of promising youngsters, but we have nobody equal to them. "I can see only seven certainties for the next visit to Australia. They are:— Sutcliffe, Hammond, Leyland, Duleepsinhji, Duckworth, Wyatt and Peebles."
