QUITE FEASIBLE.
Northern Air Route Across
Atlantic.
GERMAN'S FLIGHT.
(Received 11.30 a.m.)
NEW YORK, August 2-5.
Captain von Gronau and his three companions, who flew from Iceland in a Domier Wal flying boat, arrived at Halifax at 3 pan. on Monday. They immediately started refuelling preparatory' to resuming their flight to New York.
Insufficiently detailed maps were the cause of the airmen being forced down by fog at Queen's Port Harbour, Nova Scotia, on Sunday. With the exception of the fog the airmen met with no appreciable difficulty.
Canadian aviation authorities think that von Gronau's flight seems to prove conclusively the feasibility of the North Atlantic air route as the one that will eventually be adopted from Europe to America. A group of young English explorers are now in the Arctic gathering data with the intention of planning a route from Europe into Central Canada, probably Winnipeg.
