MONEY FOR ROAD WORK.
COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING.
Mr. J. X. Massey, M.P., presided at the meeting of the Franklin County Council yesterday.
The Treasury advised that- consent to the raising of the following loans had been given: Boundary and Cook's Roads, Waipipi, £250; Karaka Point Road, £480; Elliott-Carpenter Road, £200.
The Local Government Loans Board sanctioned the raising of £600 for work on the Ararimu main road, £500 for Dykes' Road, Karaka, and £500 for Parkers Lane, Buckland.
Nine Puni settlers urged the formation of a special rating area of part of the Puni soldiers' settlement, and the raisin# of £400 for the purpose of farming and metalling two miles of the Puni settlement road.
The Public Works Department forwarded authority for the expenditure of £300 on a £ for £ basis f-or work on Watt's Bridge, Hunua, and £143 16/ (free) on Bell's Road, Maungatawhiri. The treasurer reported that since April 1 £20,769 had been expended on main highways and country roads. This amount was little more than that allocated for the year. Rates outstanding totalled £7411.
The engineer reported that the cost of reconstructing miles of Settlement Road, Runciman (Drury), would be £265, and with metal a further £552, a total of £817.
