EGGS ONE PENNY CHEAPER,

A smaller shipment of citrus fruit arrived by the Aorangi yesterday.' Some lines were in good condition, but others poor. The mandarins sold yesterday realised from 0/ to 9/6 a case. Pines fetched a high figure. There will be no Sydney boat now for a fortnight. A fresh shipment of Californian. grapes will arrive this week via Wellington.

There is not much change to _ report in local fruit prices. Prices are improving for the better quality Nelis pears. Values far apples are still very low. Many lines of Delicious, axe in a wasty condition. Lemons are low _in price, and the demand poor. This is also true of Poorman oranges. Hothouse tomatoes are in short supply. Ttee tomatoes are still slow of sale, except for best quality. The market for passions is firmer.

Selling prices are: —Apples: Delicious, 4/ to 8/; Dougherty, 4/ to 7/; Sturmers, 6/ to 8/; Munroes, 4/ to 6/; Ballarats (wasty condition), 3/ to 4/6; Granny Smiths, 8/ to 9/6; Jonathans (wasty condition), 3/ to 4/. Pears: Coles, 5/ to 8/; Nelis, 7/ to 10/; Vicars, 5/ to 6/; P. Barry, 5/ to 7/. Hothouse tomatoes: 4d to 1/2 lb. Tree tomatoes: 2/ to 6/ case. Passions: 8/ to 14/. Grapefruit: Special grade, large size, 10/ to 11/; small, 4/ to 5/. Poorman oranges: Large, up to 6/; small, 2/6 to 3/. Lemons: Choice, 7/ to 9/; others, 4/ to 6/. Oranges: Island, repacks, 13/ to 16/; Australian Navels, 10/ to 13/; local, sweet, 3/ to 4/6. Mandarins: 6/ to 9/. Bananas: No. 1, 20/ to 22/6; No. 2 and medium, 10/ to 14/. Pines: Australian, 26/ to 30/. Onions Short. New potatoes are now in fairly good supply. This is partly due to the increased number of supplies. Quantities of onions available are short, and will be so until the first shipment arrives from America, next week. The lnancet is still heavily supplied with cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce and celery. Ruling values are:—Potatoes: Southern, 6/6 to 7/ cwt; new, good supplies, 2%d", to 3M lb. Onions, 12/ to 17/ cwt; kumaras, Island 10/6 to 11/, Tauranga 7/ to 8/6 cwt; cabbages, 2/ to 6/ sacic; cauliflower, 2/ to 4/ sack; swedes, 2/ to 3/ bag; pumpkins, 6/ to 13/ cwt; green peans, 1/6 lb; beans, hothouse, 1/3 to 1/9 lb; lettuce, 1/ to 5/ case; cucumbers, hothouse, 4/ to 5/ dozen; vegetable marrows, 1/6 to 2/6 dozen; cabbages, on benches, 1/ to 2/6 dozen; cauliflower, 1/ to 4/6 dozen; celery, 6d to 3/ bundle; rhubarb, 3/ to 6/ dozen; spinach, 1/ to 1/6 dozen; pumpkins, on benches, 6cl to 2/6 each: radish, 6d dozen; spring onions, 4d to 1/2 bundle; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 9d to 1/9 dozen; leeks,, 2d to 5d bundle. Poultry Sale. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was short, and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain level.. Quotations are:—Cockerels: Heavy, breeds, prime, 6/ to 7/; not prime, 3/6 upwards; light breeds, prime, 4/ to 5/; not prime, 3/ upwards. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, 2/ to 2/6. Eat hens: Heavy breeds, 3/6 to 4/6; light breeds, 3/ to 3/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 4/ to o/; smaller, 2/6 upwards; light breeds, best, 4/6 to 6/6; smaller, 2/6 upwards. Drakes: Young, prime, 3/ to 4/; old, 2/6 to 3/. Ducks: Young. 3/ to 4/; old, 2/ to -3/. Geese: 4/6 to 6/. Turkey hens: 5/6 to 9/. Gobblers: 10/ to 18/6. Day-old chicks: 6d to lOd. Guinea fowls: 4/ to 5/. Eggs More Plentiful. Supplies of eggs are becoming more plentiful. The price has dropped Id this week. Demand is still good, partly because a number of people are taking advantage of the low prices to pickle. Current prices for first quality hen eggs are: Special grade, 1/5 dozen; A grade, 1/4; B grade, 1/3; C grade, If. Duck eggs: Special, grade, 1/5 dozen; A grade, 1/4; B grade, 1/3; C grade, l/l. Farmers' butter is fetching from 1/ to 1/2 a lb.
