NOTES FROM RICCARTON
THE THREE-YEAR-OLDS.
SOME PROMISING MATERIAL,
SPOON IS '"SPEEDY,
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
CHRISTCHURCH, this day,
Spoon looks in nice order for early racing. The Tea Tray—Warlove filly, who won the Challenge Stakes last Easter, has done a lot of useful work, and now that she has started the sprinting stage of her preparation she is likely to attract some attention as she is well endowed with pace. She is being got ready for the Dunedin Guineas, but whether she will have a race before then is not at present known. Possibly, however, Ashburton will provide an opportunity for her first appearance this season.
Ivakara is going on well in her preparation for spring engagements. This filly did best of the three-year-olds in the Cashmere Plate, in which she finished fourth behind three of the older division. She is a speedy galloper, who was placed in two races last Easter, these being her only engagements for the season, and she may open her winning account before long.
The three-year-old Riri is a regular worker on the Riccarton tracks, where he is getting through useful task*;. He has shown speed, but like his elder brother, Chide, ho may require time. His owner-trainer, G, Murray Aynsley, is sanguine about Riri'is prospects as a stayer, and with that idea in his mind he is not likely to hurry the Paladin gelding.
