DANNEVIRKE MEETING.

PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW

GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED.

THE CARD REVIEWED.

The spring meeting of the Dannevirke Racing Club will be held at Dannevirke to-morrow. Good fields are carded for the various events and the racing should be interesting. The. Hack Hurdle?. In the Glengarry Hack Hurdles Whakaue, who annexed the Riverslea Hunters' Hurdles at Hastings on Saturday, is now at the top of the weights, and ho should again go well. Call Again ran third in a hurdle event at Levin last season, was second to Aurora Borealia at Marion, and won the , Poroutawhao Hurdles, one mile and five furlongs, at Foxton, while he was third to Fine Acre and Four Aces on the second day. Dobbin has not impressed with his performances over battens during the winter, but Masher was fourth at Napier Park. Tall Timber won the Hunters' Hurdles at the Poverty Bay Hunt meeting recently, while Marica had a race over hurdles at the last Wanganui meeting, and she and Break o' Day may bo the best of the others. The chief selections may be WHAKAUE, MASHER, CALL AGAIN. The Maiden Stakes. Twenty-live figure in the Maiden Stakes, and the majority are unknown quantities. Jayson was second in a similar event at Otaki in June, was third in the Trial Plate at Trentham last month, and occupied a similar position in the Novice Handicap at the same fixture. He should go well. Masterton was third in a juvenile event at the Wairarapa summer meeting. Roundelay raced at the recent Manawatu winter meeting, but failed to get into the money. Hawksliaw was placed three times in juvenile events last season and is a promising sort. Dick Whittington was prominent in the Milson Handicap at Manawatu for a good portion of the way. Trojan Mejody was third at the Otaki meeting in June, while Laconic was third at Hastings on Saturday. Derry Belle has plenty of pace and may be the best of the others. The best backed may be JAYSON HAWKSHAW DERRY BELLE. The Neagle Handicap. Ten are carded for Neagle Handicap. Marjoram ran two 'good races at the Manawatu winter meeting, winning the Clifford Plate, one mile and a quarter, and finishing second to Paddon in the Newbury Handicap, nine, furlongs. Hynanna showed at that meeting that he was likely to return to form before long, and he should be an improved horse to-morrow. He will have Courageous coupled with him. The latter showed winning form at Awapuni. He won this event last season, but the placings were reversed and he was put second to Black Mint. The latter is also engaged. Blimp appears as though he is coming to his best and should run well. Slirewd won the Abbotsford' Handicap, six: furlongs and a half, at Hastings on Saturday, but he stays well; while of the others Chopin and Queen's Choice may be the best. The best supported are likely to be HYN ANNA-COURAGEOUS BRACKET • • SHREWD BLIMP. Umutaoroa Handicap. Simba, who was a promising two-year-old last season, will have his first race this season in the Umutaoroa Handicap, in which lie is weighted at 9.0. If approaching his best lie should show up. Taranto won the Greenmeadows Hack Handicap, five furlongs, at tlio Napier park winter meeting and was fourth in the Milsom Handicap, of similar distance, at "the Manawatu winter meeting. Tripping annexed the Debutante Stakes, five furlongs, at Woodville and the Rakaiatai Nursery Handicap, of similar distance, at Dannevirke last season. Repay scorcd over six furlongs, at the Hawke's Bay Hunt meeting on Saturday and should again go well; while Acmil just failed by a head in the Okawa Maiden Stakes, five furlongs and a half, at the same meeting. The bulk of the money may go on simba • ; REPAY TARANTO. The Dannevirke Hack Steeplechase. Risk won over steeples at the Manawatu meeting and was again successful at the Hawke's Bay Hunt meeting; on Saturday, and in consequence he' is now at the top of the weights for the Dannevirke' Steeplechase. Handy is a good jumper and he only needs to stay to be in the money.' Sir Moment was second in the June Steeplechase to Brigadier Bill at Napier Park and was second to Hymestrason and third to Hymestrason and Corneroff in the hack steeplechases at Trentham last month. He should have a chance. ■ Of the others, Mandate, who raced well at the Manawatu meeting, and Kovno, who was second to Risk on Satur-. day, may prove the best. The public may fancy MANDATE RISK SIR MOMENT. The President's Handicap. Eleven have been'paid up for in the President's Handicap. Kahikatoa won a couple of events .as a two-year-old last season.and was.second to Repay,at Hastings on. Saturday. Jenny Diver was a good two-year-old last season. Desert Lad ran quite a fair ivice in the Rangiotu 'Handicap, six furlongs,' at .Manawatu, which was his last appearance, and he should be improved; Pat's Boy,. Easterly and Acmil may have most of the others engaged. The chief fancies are likely to be KAHIKATOA JENNY DIVER DESERT LAD. The Ruahine Handicap. Historic has been awarded 10,3 in the Ruahine Handicap, but he has not raced for some time. If at his best he should take some beating; but will probably be in need of a race.
