PERJURY CHARGE.

MOTOR COLLISION AND LIQUOR

DKIVER TO STAND TRIAL. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Friday. As a sequel to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car, Jerry Boliopaura appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day on a further charge ,s>f having committed perjury. It was stated that in the Court on the former occasion he had used the following words: "I was not in any hotel in Wanganui or on the. way out to Maxwell that day. I had no liquor at all that day." The police to-day alleged that accused did have liquor and did enter the premises of the Kai-iwi Hotel on April 15. Richard H. Lovegrove, power board employee, said that on April 15 he saw accused at the time of the accidont. He was abusive and drunk. Witness detected signs of liquor on him. Witness heard accused's evidence in Court, when he stated that lie liad no liquor that day. Henry Siddals, storekeeper, Maxwell, said accused called at his store on the evening of April 15. Witness judged from his language and unsteadiness that he had had liquor. Eric Victor Morrison, farmer, said he saw accused at the Maxwell store on April 15. Witness thought he was under the influence of liquor.

Constable Tindall, Waitotara, said on April 15 he saw accused after the accident. In the opinion of witness he was under the influence of, liquor.

Thomas E. Ivinmont, solicitor, Hawera, said he saw accused after the accident. He considered that accused was mucli too drunk to be in charge of & car.

Accused reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in accused's own recognisance of £25 and one other surety of £25.
