Moths Ahead in 5000-Mile Race. STEADY PROGRESS.

RUGBY, July 24,

Two British Moth aeroplanes, piloted respectively by Mr. Alan Butler and Captain Broad, were first to reach Nimes from Barcelona to-day in the circuit of Europe race.

They arrived' within five minutes of each other. Mr. Butler was in the lead.

The course from Nimes lies by way of Lyons, across Switzerland, Southern Germany and Austria to Poland, and then back to the. starting point, Berlin, by way of Danzig.

Captain Broad arrived at Lausanne ahead of Mr. Butler and Mr. Thorn.

Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith and his wireless operator, Mr. W. S. Stannage, sailed by the liner Europa. •Smithy" expects to start his flight to Australia within a week or two after reaching England.

Hen* Wolfhirth, who' lost a leg in an air crash, and Herr .Oscar Weller, a journalist, left Stuttgart in a Klemin monoplane for Chicago via the Orkneys, Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland.
