Captain William Manning is taking out on July 31 the twin-screw, lighthouse general service tender Matai, built by Hawthorn, Leslie, and Company, at Hebburn-on-Tyne, for the New Zealand Government. The Matai is sailing via Panama at a reduced speed of nine knots. She is equipped with an echo-sounding machine, and wireless has been installed in the cabin for the Governor-General's suite.
