VOLUNTEER SPIRIT.

Quite a number of territorials in Auckland and their officers are prepared to serve in their old units in a voluntary) capacity. At a meeting of members of the Fourth Howitzer Battery, 69 out of 70 men on parade offered to serve voluntarily. Similar enthusiasm was shown by officers and men of the First Battery, New Zealand Artillery. The Auckland Returned Soldiers executive passed a resolution last eveninf viewing with grave concern any scheme likely to weaken the New Zealand defences forces.
