TE AROHA NOTES.

TAURIMU HAS A FALL. SOME GUINEAS CANDIDATES. Included in the list of entries for the Avondale Guineas to bo run next spring are the names of Mr. R. B. Hines' candidates King Win, Balfour and Art Gallery. (The last-named has been leased ; to:'H^'J,"Manttel, ofc Ellefslie* v Ofr'the pothers-King-Win Is the most likely to contest the; event. In the 1931 : Guineas Sir. A. J. Mond's Lady. Musk, Mr. W.S. Wood's Nelly Bawn and Mr. T. Yam's Weathervahe filly are listed. The lastnamed is already in work, and is doing so Avell that she will make her appearance under silk early in the coming season. Her owner is a well-known Te Kuiti business man, who entrusted her to the care of trainer J. H. Wallace. Tauriinu, who has Seen schooling well over obstacles, sustained a fall this.week by slipping down on the bitumen roadway, and for a few days at least will bo on the easy list'. But for the mishap the Quin Abbey gelding was looked upon as a likely contestant at the Pakuranga meeting. Mr. A. Forrest is at present handling a Carl Rosa gelding, which,, for compactness and strength would be difficult to beat. In conformation no is a real weight carrier, and even if< he does not race should take prizes in the show ring. The latest addition to M. Lipsey's stable is a rising three-year-old gelding by Marble Arch —Anian Queen. He is bred on identically the same lines as the defunct Grand Arch. He is of the low .set type, with excellent fore-end, short back, well coupled, with nicely let-down quarters and splendid flat bone of good measurement. He has a very game appearance, and it will be a matter forj surprise if he does not make good next season. May Show to Advantage. ' The Lucullus—Miss Floss gelding in J. H. Wallace's stable is now being stretched out on the tracks, and early in his three-year-old career may show' to advantage. The Weathervane filly in the same stable, although growing, is built on much lighter lines, but in short sprints shows a nice turn of speed. G. A. Reid is keeping his team going. Most of their training work is being dono on the unmetalled roads, and will be ready for fast work perhaps before the new local grass track is available. Improvements are still in progress at the local course.. The front fence of the lawn has been shifted forward 48ft, a considerable space has been added to the birdcage enclosure and saddling 1 paddock. During the next few days the judge's box will be shifted further west and an extension of the lawn proceeded with. A. E. Cox's Sandstar—Waipoto filly has been given a little Balf pace work on the grass track this week and moves very smoothly. She looks like one that may come to hand quickly. ■

On Wednesday morning work was executed on the old course proper. Steady, tasks were allotted Black Maire, Glenison, Miss Albyn, Waipoto filly, Sir Russell, Lucullus gelding and Lucky Alice. Indolent and the Weathervane filly sprinted about three furlongs, gthe latter gaining an advantage of a length at the start and maintaining it throughout.
