HUNT CLUB MEETING.

THE ANNUAL FIXTURE.

TO-MORROW'S PROGRAMME

THE FIELDS EEVIEWED.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

The South Canterbury Hunt Club's meeting will be held at..Washdyke to-morrow. Good fields are engaged in all the events, while the presence of a few candidates for the leading races at Riccarton next month will add. to the intereet. The Hurdles. Membo ran a good race when beaten ■by Troilus at Waimate in his first effort over hurdlee, and he should be improved •by the experience. Hard Prince, once a useful hurdler, has been racing over country, but appears to have made no advance in ;;tamina. Gold Mint is - a novice whose schooling form hae been patchy. Exide shaped fairly well at Waimate, and requires to do only a little better to be dangerous. He will, however, find Membo hard to. beat. The chief fancies may be MEMBO EXIDE. ~ Pareora Steeplechase. Most of the horses in the Hunters' Steeplechase raced at Waimate, And many of them can have no chance. With a guarantee that Barrington would get round he would look a good prospect, but the more solidly erected fences will trouble him. Deportment should be benefited by his Waimate race, while Tractarian should again go well. Marco Polo is anoiher improving novice. A likely pair are TRACTARIAN DEPORTMENT. South Canterbury Steeplechase. Radiate and Valves, two Grand National candidates, will arouse- most , intereet. Each of them scored a win over the same country last month, and they should provide a good contest. They ehould be better now. French Fleet and Radiac may be the best of the others, but most money may go on RADIATE i VALVES. Levels Hack Handicap. Fair. Money is a useful sort who may go better than Valuator, who had the best of. the race at Waimate. Royal Limond was not so well favoured on that 'occasion, and he may reverse the places. Rapina is improving, and Sweet Refrain may be better later on. The favourites will probably be ,*'.' ROYAL LIMOND, FAIR MONEY. Washayke Trot. Real Girl has great speed and only requires stamina to win races. Mary Locanda raced well at Waimate while Happy Lass, Nor'-wester, Derry Pointer and Otaio Rose are good sorts'. Those that may make most appeal are REAL GIRL, DERRY POINTER. Teschemaker Steeplechase. Rangatahi will heed to improve on his Waimate form to beat some of those below him. • Barrington will be hard to beat if he jumps cleanly, but there is a; doubt in this respect. Wairio was going well when he fell at Ashburton, and Ngahue ran a good race.behind Barrington at Waimate. Tractarian may run in the earlier event. Scion is an uncertain jumper, but tha Riccarton candidate Kulrange is a safe conveyance, and, judged on their schooling, Wairio and Ngahue should show up. The best backed may be. ..V. KULRANGE, : ; WAIRIO. The Hunters' Handicap. Gold Mint and Fresh Breeze are a likely pair from Riccarton, though the former is not always reliable. The Waimate winner, XJommentor, in'spite of eistra weight, should race well, as she can stay. The .chief fancies may be COMMENTOR, ?;■ GOLD MINT. ! '~ Clareraont Handicap. This race has attracted a good field] including several horses with recent form to commend them. Taboo'and Town Major will be strongly fancied, as the track should suit them. Firet Raid would be better suited by a shorter distance, but Evening should race well. Beau Geste and, Tbpere will be betier later. Most money may go on , . TOWN MAJOR, :,. -.; TABOO.
