SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The OtaJrahii Girl Guides held a dance in the Parish Hall last Monday evening. A 500 card tournament was won by Mrs. W. EL Payne and Mrs. Muton, and capper: was served by the Guides. • •■..*... V •■.•

On June 26 the pupils of tie Ladies' College, Bemuera, gave a very successful entertainment in St. Mark's Hall in aid of the City Mission's shelter. The result, £40, has been forwarded to the Kev. Jasper Calder. , ■ * * # * Another very enjoyable evening- was spent by the patients on Wednesday at the usual weekly concert arranged by, \ JSfrs. Haeltan and Mr. A. St. Join's Ladies' Social Committee iheld its fourth K At Home" of the year in the Presbyterian Hall. Great South Road, Papatoetoe, on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. T; H. Eoseveare, president of the Papatoetoe branch of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union, presided. The hall was decorated with golden wattle and Iceland poppies. Stalls were in the charge of Mesdames 3fuir, Hunter and Wells (produce), and Misses M. Foster and J. Knight had the sweets. The programme of entertainment included songs by Mesdames Quin, Jellard and Payter and Mr. JSalfrer, iiuets by Mesdames Payter and Willis, and Mr. Salter and Dr." J. J. Valentine, elocutionary items by Miss R. Kirkifaride and Miss Leah Roseveare, and a character song by the Eev. T. H. Eoseveare, Mesdames J. McFarland and A. W. Hall were in charge of afternoon tea.

The Manurewa Catholic Church held a dance in the local theatre on Tuesday evening. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. Miller, an elimination waltz was won by Mr. E. Bennett and Miss J. Harris, and a spot waltz by Mr. Crosby Cole and Miss M. Donelan. Amongst those present were: Mrs. R. Stewart, wearing peach georgette with gold lace trimmings; Misses S. An afternoon tea in honour of Lady Myers, wife of the Chief Justice, -who i 3 on a brief visit to Auckland, was given at the Tudor Tearooms yesterday by Lady Herdman. The tables were beautifully arranged with golden shaded Iceland poppies and exquisite spring flowers. Lady Herdman wore a frock of black silk moire, with, black cloth eoat trimmed with Persian lamb, and Black hat to tone. Miss Joyce Herdman was in moire silk -with point lace collar and cuffs, and marmot coat with hat to tone. Lady Myers wore a black ensemble, with fox furs, and a close fitting hat.
