STILL IDLE.
BKNOWN COLLIERIES DISPUTE
MEN REFUSE TERMS,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HUNTLY, this day.
The Renown collieries arc still idle owing to a dispute in regard to transport matters between the men and the contractor. There is no prospect of work being resumed. A meeting of employees was held yesterday, and the men refused to accept" the terms offered by the contractor. It is understood that the terms offered them at the conference on Monday last by the contractor was 8/ per week in winter when the mines work regularly and 6/ during the eurnmer months for the weekly ticket. This charge ie for conveying men to and from work over a difficult road, the distance each, way being 10J miles. The Renown Company subsidises the eeryice, but it is largely absorbed by special tripe or idle days. The return fare has been 1/4, and the dispute is against the weekly ticket wanted by the contractor. The men think the coal company should bear.eome of the expense'of transporting them to the mine. The old terms allowed were six return tripe for 8/, the ticket to be used at any time. The new terms are for the weekly ticket expiring at the end of the week.
