BRAVE DEVONPORT GIRL.

HUMANE SOCIETY'S AWARD,

In saving three persons from drowning at Muriwai Beach on February 23 last, Miss Eila Munro-, of Devonport, won the Royal Humane Society's gold meda.l. The presentation of the medal was made on Wednesday, when Miss Munro, who 16 only IS years of age, was the guest of honour at a social and dance organised by the North Shore Amateur Swimming Club. "Not only Devonport, but all New Zealand is proud of Miss Munro and her unequalled bravery at Muriwai," said Mr. J. Hislop, Deputy-Mayor of Devonport, in relating how Miss Munro rescued two men and a woman from a strong undertow. The medal was accompanied by a letter of commendation from the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society, which was handed to Miss Munro by Mr. A. E. Eagleton, the Auek. land representative of the society. It was the first time that such a written commendation had been awarded, he said.
