LOST IN JUNGLE.

MATTHEWS AND HOOK.

Flyers Fatigued by Aimless Wanderings.

NOT INJURED IN CRASH.

| (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) | (Received 11.30 a.m.) j DELHI, July 14. It is now known that Messrs. Eric Hook and James Matthews were not injured when their 'plane crashed in a flat, open space in the jungle. They started off in the direction of what they believed to be a village, but after some time found themselves back where they had started.

They made a further attempt by following the Buyo Stream, but as they had to swim the river several times, Hook collapsed.

Matthews carried him for some distance but he was too weak to continue. It was a matter of Matthews going for help or lying down to die with Hook, and Matthews took the most practical course.

At present there is no news of Hook, although numerous search parties are scouring the neighbourhood where Matthews states lie left him.

It is reported that the accident hap pened about 150 miles from Promo.

A message received yesterday stated that a leak in the petrol pipe forced the flyers to descend in thick jungle. The 'plane was wrecked, and it was stated that both aviators were injured, Hook seriously. They struggled for days through impenetrable jungle, and iinally Matthews had to leave Hook bleeding badly, and in the throes of a high fever.
