NEWMARKET'S LOAN POLL.
In your Saturday's issue I read of an unprecedented position in Newmarket affairseven polling over a borough improvement scheme of, I should say, major importance to this business centre. I have travelled through Newmarket practically daily for over twenty years, either by tram or motor, oil my way to business; and on Friday evenings do my shopping in Broadway, where there are some fine buildings and also some that have well passed their allotted span. This loan proposal I believe was for purchasing and removing a very old building to form a fine, wide thoroughfare which would be a great asset to the town, besides giving access to Khyber Pass; yet, by the result, the poll seems to indicate that tha prido the people of Newmarket once took in their borough is extinct. A few years ago a poll for such an important improvement to the township would have been carried by more than ten to one. It is an old saying that the longer a person stays in one place the shorter his vision becomes. It takes an outsider to see the advantages. Wake up, Newmarket! Have your poll over again and show Auckland that as of old you are not asleep. CITY RATEPAYER.
