GREAT LIBERAL QUARTET.
COUNCIL'S RESOLUTION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. At a meeting of the Waihi Borough Council last evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, moved: "That this council place on record its high appreciation of the services rendered to the Empire, and the Dominion in particular, during the long political career of the late Sir Joseph Ward, and that a letter be forwarded. "to "the family of the deceased statesman sympathising with them in their irreparable loss." In moving the resolution, the Mayor said that many eulogies .were being delivered throughout the Dominion in regard to the wonderful political history of Sir Joseph Ward, but one fact stood out prominently, in that during the SeddonWard.regime New Zealand had been very definitely placed on the map as being in the van of progressive legislation, based on humanitarian principles. The last of that great Liberal quartet—Grey, Ballance, Seddon and Ward, had now passed, and it only remained for them to pay tribute to his memory, which would ever .remain green in the hearts of the people of this country.
