This applies more especially to the Police Court and if the magistrate did not administer rough justice he. would be working far into the night. One cannot expect perfection-.' 1 '>• from the magistrates, who have been recruited' from the legal profession or the Civil Service.It is obvious that they aro not of the sams'v'. calibre as the judges of the Supreme Court"'H It is not clear as to exactly what your pondent means when he says that'a little too much of "the master" is in evidence but he;"must know that it is for the court to control' its procedure and see that dignity is lent to * ' its proceedings. On occasions this involves coming down on individuals with a heavy hand. It can be truly said that nowhere is justice more fairly administered than in New Zealand. L 35.
