FOR THE LITTLE ONES

A "REQUEST' LETTER. ' PROVERB GAMES BY THE FIRESIDE. < ' ..' • ■ j My Dear Little Friends,— ■ ■■ < __ Just the other day one little eight-year-old reader of Star Twinkles wrote and a ß ked ever «o nicely if I could tell her how to play some fireside and as other little folk are also sure to want some, I deeded to make to-day's letter about games that can be played mdoors. Provlrbs are always popular and whenever there are a number of little oeoole together they can have lots of fun by playing at proverb limes Crvin/proverbs is a game than can be played by any number One leave, the room and whilst he is out the other. I SeciSe upon a" proverb and .each one is given a wor £**£»££ • The boy or girl who is outside is then recalled and all the other, shout !It thel words all at the same time. From this jumb e .^ound^ he player just brought in has to guess the proverb. If at first he cann»tpick i ft olt he may try again. The words can be repeated, everyoneJ*"*-* together, until the player guesses the proverb or gives it up f^S^r The more players in this game the better, for long proverbs that are more difficult to guess can then be chosen. . , A much quieter game is acting proverbs This gives those who are fond of acting a chance to show iheir skill. Each player chooses a _proverb, th*n must go through some action which will suggest tne proverb. The other players try to guess which proverb 10 being acted. . For instance, if a player pretended to be sewing it would be very easy to guess that "A stitch in time saves nine" was the proverb, whilst if a cupful of water was carried very carefully across the floor, the proverb "A full cup must be carried steadily" would be represented. Clever little people can very easily think of other good proverbs and ways of acting them. • •* Another very good game is guessing proverbs. In this game the proverb should contain at least as many Words as it does player.. One player is again sent out of the room and upon returning is allowed to ask each player a question. The answer must be a sentence in which is used the word of the proverb given. Asking each a question in turn, the player goes on ■_ round the circle until he has at last guessed the proverb. jrfy t^^Tj^Sf^*'^*^ These proverb games by the fire- (•J[f\lfU> V^>" ' bide will afford my 'ittle friends quite a lot of fun, and so the winter even- V/^^-"^ ings will-pars happily encigb. -"^
