3 ELECTION OF OFFICERS

WELLINGTON, Friday.
The' New Zealand Racing Conference met to-day, Mr. 0. S. Watkins presiding. Remits regarding, the interpretation of "executive committee" by the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club- were withdrawn after discussion. Another one on the same subject, "That a the executive could be a member of the district committee of such district who need not necessarily be a representative on the conference" was lost.
The Canterbury Jockey Club also moved to have the voting for the carrying of a special resolution reduced from three-fourths to two-thirds, but that was defeated.
I The remits by the Auckland, district clubs (north) to allow district committees to allocate totalisator licenses and grant licenses to trainers, jockeys and apprentices, were withdrawn. The rule regarding the class of races on programmes was altered to read: "That if any club holds . three or more two-day meetings there shall be a race for apprentices."
A remit from the Canterbury Jockey Club to take away the power of the executive committee of the conference, to allow a club to dispense with the inclusion of at least one steeplechase or hurdle or flat race at welter weights or 9st minimum in which steeplechase or hurdle jockeys are eligible, also races for apprentices only, and two flat races of not less than a mile each day between September 1 and April 30 was j lost.
It was decided that in the case of a horse brought into New Zealand which had been entered for a race out of New Zealand under a name already used in New Zealand, such name may be registered for it if accompanied by a numeral, " and the name with the numeral shall be its name; provided, howSver, the president may at his discretion permit the name to be registered without a numeral. The proposal'of the Taranaki Jockey Club to, allow persons interested in an appeal to be represented by a barrister or solicitor was lost.
It was agreed to remove the office of •the New Zealand Kacing Conference to Wellington. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. 0. S. Watkins (Wellington); vice-president, Mr. H. 0. Nolan (Auckland); executive, the president, vice-president, and Messrs. L. W. Nelson (Auckland), H. A. Knight (Canterbury), A. C. Hanlon (Dunedin), T. E. Coates (Greymouth), J. S. McLeod (Hawke's Bay), W. T. Hazlett (Southland), L. A. Nolan (Taranaki), J. H. Perfett (Wanganui), and D. M. Einlay (Wellington).
