WHANGAREI NOTES.
The Wliangarei branch ot the St. John Ambulance held their annual hall in the Town. Hall on Wednesday night. The hall" had been extensively decorated for the-occasion by members of the ambulance, division, in their colours, black and white streamers and balloons being draped from the roof. On the stage stood a giant reproduction of the .St. John Ambulance badge, behind which screens of greenery hid the supper- tables. The [ ball was formally opened with a grand march led by Dr. Ward and Mrs. J. G. Ball.' Among the ladies were Mesdames Ball, J. A. MacLeod,' H. W. Coles, Hill, Allan, M. G-. Fulton, K. A. Knight, S. On Saturday night Mr. and Mrs. Cleverly held a party at their home to enable members of the City Football Club to express appreciation of Miss Dot Brown's services in the recent queen carnival. A large number of guests spent the evening in dancing in the adjoining Friendly Societies' Hall. Supper was served in Mrs. Cleverly's dining room, after which Mr. Alf Waterman took the opportunity to present Miss Brown with a solid leather suit case, on behalf of the City Football Club. Thanks were also accorded Mr.'and Mrs. Cleverly for their hospitality. Among those present were: Mesdames Cleverly, G. Nieholls, Jones, Rowlands, W. Stainton, Weaver. Williams, W.
