HARDY OLD LADY, I I INTERESTING FAMILY GROUP. I I — GKEAT-GREAT-GRANTXfIILDIIEN. Five generations ari represented in the photograph of Mrs. L. Stephens and her descendants which will be found on this page. Sirs. Stephens, who has ten children, 58 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, will celebrate her S6th birthday on the day that New Zealand meet the British in the third Test, July 2G. Mrs. Stephens cams to New Zealand with her husband and four children by the sailing ship Waitangi. which arrived in the Waitemata in the spring of 1574, after a long voyage of 113 days. The day that the passengers by the Waitangi came ashore was a Friday, and on the Saturday Mr. Stephens, who was an engineer, was engaged by a Mr. Sam McSaskey to install the engines in the steamer Enterprise 1L and the now-forgotten Orakei. -Auckland to-day is a very different pla.ee from what it was when Mrs. Stephens knew it. for in those long ago times the sea came up pa>t Customs Street, and the present waterfront layout was not dreamed of. Mrs. Stephens, who still enjoys good health, lias vivid recollections of a big lire that destroyed many houses in the /city a few days after she arrived.
