RUGBY FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES. MATCH WITH THAMES. HASLAM GETS A PLACE, The Auckland representative team will make its first local appearance of the season at Eden Park to-morrow against Thames. A month ago the Auckland fifteen played Waikato at Hamilton, and had the narrowest of wins, partly. it was admitted, because Waikato this year has a fine forward side, and the strongest rearguard it has had for years. At the same time there was a deal of disappointment with the work of the Auckland backs, whose combination was not a≤ effective as had been hoped. For the game against Thames, Hr. Nicholson has sprung a surprise bv replacing Jones, the Maori player, with Haskuij of Technical Old Boys, at fiveeighth. This gives

the Technical boy Lis first rep. cap. He has been playing consistently well in club games, and has weight with a fair amount of pace, as well as good hands, and should be able to lit in with the crisper pace set in rep. games, he may prove the find thajt Auckland has been.

hoping for among the inside backs. In the forwards the reappearance of Hadley in the front row will be generally welcomed. He is paired •with Palmer, but another excellent front-row player in Finlayson, of Grafton, has been included in the pack. It may be the selectors intention to experiment in this department durinjr the game. Thames this season has not been showing quite the same standard of play in the subunion games as in former years, but reports are to the effect that the forwards will be rugged and fast, and the backs individually strong. Following are the teams:—
